Microsoft Open-sourced GW-BASIC

As I mentionned, BASIC is 60. But 4 years ago Microsoft Open-sourced GW-BASIC:

We are excited to announce the open-sourcing of Microsoft GW-BASIC on GitHub!

Yes, seriously 😀

GW-BASIC was the basic interpreter that came with MS-DOS. A descendant of IBM basica for the IBM PC itself descendant of Microsoft BASIC.

The post gives some historical context, and also a wayback machine trip to what was pop culture the year of the release. From Return of the Jedi to Wargames (I feel old now).

The now archived github repository contains the source code in assembly language. For historical purpose only.
