Flipper Zero

Ars Technica tell Canada declares Flipper Zero public enemy No. 1 in car-theft crackdown:

On Thursday, the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada agency said it will “pursue all avenues to ban devices used to steal vehicles by copying the wireless signals for remote keyless entry, such as the Flipper Zero, which would allow for the removal of those devices from the Canadian marketplace through collaboration with law enforcement agencies.”

It’s like banning screw drivers because they can be used to hot wire the ignition. But the Ministry in charge of this portofolio isn’t known be tech literate. Or worse.

But then:

One thing the Flipper Zero is exceedingly ill-equipped for is defeating modern antihack protections built into cars, smartcards, phones, and other electronic devices.

So it’s not even the thing as most of the security system require capabilities way beyond what Flipper Zero does.

The whole thing is preposterous. If a security system can be defeated by such a device, then it is not a security system.

But what to think of the same Government that, ignoring all the experts, did push bills to put a tax on web links, or to force social media to promote “Canadian content”?

This is getting tiring.
