More on train locks
Follow up on the previous story about the locked Polish trains.
404 media reports Polish Hackers Repaired Trains the Manufacturer Artificially Bricked. Now The Train Company Is Threatening Them:
The train’s manufacturer is now threatening to sue the hackers who were hired by the independent repair company to fix it.
That’s right. The railroad own the train, but doesn’t according to the manufacturer.
But then, European laws, similarly to US and Canada, have murky provisions that only benefit these shady businesses, under the guise of protecting copyright. And the companies surely use the pseudo argument of safety to try to garner support, a similar argument made by John Deere to lock tractors; and it could just work.
Even in Europe, Right to Repair has a long journey ahead.
