Reverse Engineered iMessage Blocked

I previously mentionned how Google wanted to force Apple to open iMessage via regulations because Google feel left out with the green bubble. I then forgot to mention that There’s a new iMessage for Android app — and it actually works (via The Verge).

Turns out it didn’t last long.

The Verge reports that Apple has seemingly found a way to block Android’s new iMessage app:

It appears that Beeper Mini, an easy iMessage solution for Android, was simply too good to be true — or a short-lived dream, at least. On Friday, less than a week after its launch, the app started experiencing technical issues when users were suddenly unable to send and receive blue bubble messages.

I am not surprised. It’s a key part of lock-in on iPhone.

I laud the effort of Beeper to try to get around this, and I seriously hope they have new tricks.
